About Paul:
Paul was born in the year of the Dragon (1976) and he is from the United Kingdom (that means he’s English.) Paul wanted a reliable 4WD with a fridge in it and as a consequence Tanya is travelling in relative comfort. Paul likes: vegan food, rooibos chai, beer lao, making fires and the music of Jah Shaka and Roots Manuva. He has read almost all the works of George Orwell and Paul Theroux and he likes dogs that don’t bite, lick or jump up too much. Paul’s favourite food is a Tofu laksa with coconut and lime. Paul’s talent is that he can change the oil in a troopcarrier in the middle of the desert.
About Tanya:
Tanya is going to be 30 soon so might as well just accept it. Tanya is born in the year of the monkey (like her sister) and she behaves very much like a monkey is expected to. Tanya’s idea was to buy a rusty VW to drive through Africa and it is just as well that common sense (also known as Paul) prevailed because without a fridge to keep the spinach and carrots perky she would have been miserable indeed. Tanya likes cooking vegan food (lucky for Paul), meeting wild animals, long baths, most kinds of hot drink but especially tea and coffee, Paul’s spaghetti bolognaise, and the writings of WH Auden and HD Thoreau. Tanya’s talent is that she can sometimes recite whole poems if given a little notice, and very short ones given no notice.
My very dear Tan and Paul, Thank you for your very welcome postcard. I’m glad you are enjoying your trip. I’m missing you. I’m well and very busy. Love you very much. Take care and God bless you, Oma. xxxx

HI Paul and Tanya! Hope you are both well. We have made it as far as Uganda! Wondering where you are now. Send us an email. We have had a ‘heads up’ on visas for Ethiopia…sounding tricky. Have you got any inside info!? We must discuss! Best wishes Lucie and Andrew X
